There's always loads of half term activities happening at Elsecar Heritage Centre, Barnsley.

4. A Sock Pig Workshop
Join LMB Crafts at the BBIC on Thursday morning to make your very own sock pig!
The workshop is suitable for people aged 8+ but adults are welcome to have a go too. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a sewing pro or a total beginner, anyone can join in.
Places are £10, and you’ll need to contact Leanne to book at lmbcrafts@outlook.com or call on 07734364392.

5. Wentworth Castle Gardens
Wentworth Castle Gardens are a beautiful day out. They open from 10am every day, and tickets start at £4.25 for a child (Free for National Trust members!) Wentworth Castle Gardens were once known as ‘the finest garden in England’. Today it is South Yorkshire’s only Grade I registered landscape, with acres of parkland and gardens to explore. During the holidays there are lots of activities happening in the grounds. Take a look at their website for a full events calendar.

6. Bake
Baking is an amazing rainy-day activity, and you get to eat your results at the end!
If you’re not quite up to Mary Berry standard, we suggest starting with an easy all-in-one method sponge cake.
You simply measure out your ingredients, pop them all in a bowl and mix them together before putting them in the oven. Easy peasy! You can also use this method to make buns, just separate into a bun tin rather than a cake tin.
Get a box of icing to decorate, or if you’re feeling really adventurous some sweets and sparkles to pop on top.
A cake to serve 8 people will cost around £5.80, without decorations.

7. Go for a walk
One of the most wonderful things about living in Barnsley is that we’re surrounded by gorgeous countryside.
Our favourite place to explore is Cannon Hall park and Gardens. There are 70 acres of parkland along with the beautiful Georgian country house. Take a picnic and a Frisbee and enjoy the scenery.
The Museum and gardens are totally free, Cannon Hall Farm is separate and has a charge of £8.95 per person.
*All day car-parking is £3.

8. 10 Pin Bowling
Everyone loves bowling, and there are some great deals around Barnsley this half term.
The Metrodome Bowling has 8 lanes and is located just inside the Metrodome building.
It’s just £4.95 for adults, £3.95 for children, but make sure you look at their ‘offers’ page to grab some discount vouchers! They do get busy during half term, so make sure you book to secure your lane.

9. Draw & Colour
Turn off the TV, put your phones away and spend some time colouring with your children.
You can use plain paper and pens to make up your own pictures, or grab a colouring book to give you a starting point. Use your imagination to think up worlds and stories for the things you’re creating!
We love the books at Colour Me Fun and they start at just £3.

10. Play a Board Game
We absolutely love board games. They’re a great way to teach your children new skills and have fun at the same time.
Our favourites are Frustration, The Pirate race game and Cluedo.
You’ll grab some great deals on sites like eBay too.
*We highly recommend staying away from Monopoly – but if you must play then set some stern ground rules first!

11. Go to the Cinema
Parkway Cinema Barnsley is just £6.00 for Adults and £5.00 for kids.
This half term they’re showing The Lego Batman Movie, and Sing!
See their full showtimes here.
*The closest car park is Regent Street and operates council rates.
