This year we hosted our third annual Blooming Great Tea Party for Marie Curie.
After the success of 2016, when we raised an enormous £340.55, we were determined to make this year even better.
Why do we do it?
Marie Curie is a charity close to our hearts. Last year alone they helped to give care and support to more than 50 000 people in the UK. Not only do they support patients, but their families too.
Help from Marie Curie comes in three main sections:
Marie Curie Nurses, Marie Curie Hospices and Marie Curie Helpers.
The Marie Curie nurses give free care to people with all terminal illnesses across the UK. They provide care at all times of day and night, supporting families as well as patients.
There are nine Marie Curie Hospices in the UK. They are open to residents and day time visitors. Last year they helped 8,638 people making them the largest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS.
Marie Curie helpers are volunteers that are there to help! Alongside being someone to talk to with a cuppa they also help in a more practical way, helping people to attend appointments or everyday tasks.
While the Government does fund around half the cost of nursing and hospice services, the other 50% is gained completely through fundraising. Without events such as the Blooming Great Tea party they would not be able to continue their amazing work.
For the third year running Priory Campus donated the main hall AND all the drinks for the evening.
The event began at 5pm with people who work in the building popping in for tea and cake before they went home. We had a visit from the Birdwell Brownies, and it wasn’t long before the cakes were running low!
On the night itself we raised a fantastic £352, but it didn’t stop there. Your donations kept coming in, bringing our final total to a Blooming Great £383!
You’re Blooming Great
Of course we couldn’t have done this alone. We had an amazing amount of support from loads of places, including everyone who donated to our raffle table;
Strawberry Secret – Vintage tea room
The Closet Queen
The Millers Tea Room
Barnsley Loves Music
Cannon Hall Farm
The Discworld Emporium
Nicola Whitfield MUA
and everyone who brought in donations!
We’d also like to give an extra special mention to Nick. He gave up his entire day to cut, stick, print, carry and blow up balloons for the event. He even spent most of the evening surrounded by Brownies at the craft table, helping them with the activities.
Nick – You’re blooming Great!
Marie Curie hold loads of campaigns during the year.
This summer they’re partnering with the National Garden scheme to open thousands of gardens around the country. All the entrance fees are donated to charity, including Marie Curie. Find a garden near you here.
