A Family Day
When I was asked to provide the photography for Emily & Mat's Barnsley wedding, I was so excited. They chose to have a low key day, keeping their children at the heart of everything.
For the wedding weekend the couple had booked a beautiful house in Millhouse Green. It had large rooms – including a games room- a patio area and huge garden, perfect for the children. I met them both at the house on the morning of the wedding.
The ladies had the top floor of the house, with the men sticking to the rooms on the second floor. Emily was having her makeup done as I arrived, while her two girls had their hair titivated. All three had matching dressing gowns and adorable personalised slippers. As the morning went on, everyone put the finishing touches to their appearance and we made our way to Barnsley Town Hall together.
Outside the Town Hall we met with the rest of the guests before entering the ceremony room. One of the bridesmaids took her trusted blanket down the aisle while holding hands with her mum. During the ceremony the children all wanted a better view, and so came to join their parents while they exchanged vows. Them being so involved in the ceremony emphasized the theme of the wedding: - family.
The Reception
After the ceremony we all drove back to the house for the wedding reception. Black Cat Bistro catering had been hard at work preparing the meal for the guests while they were at the ceremony. There was just enough time to capture some group shots on the lawn before the starters were served. Again, the children wanted to be involved and so were tasked with handing out the bread rolls!
The speeches came after the meal, with the best man’s topping them all. He’d been allowed to write it in school, and had a photo of him and his dad stuck on the front of it. He stood proudly on the wall of the garden and read it beautifully – with a little help from his dad.
As the day went on the guests made a plan to watch the England match. They’d managed to make it through the whole day without hearing the score, which was rather impressive! I ended the day with the children’s table, playing with photo booth props and making silly faces.
My favourite part of the day was the best mans’ speech. He’d written it all himself, and it was completely from the heart. It was written well and beautifully said. He did a fantastic job.
