This year we’ve had the opportunity to see some stunning wedding venues in South Yorkshire and beyond. Here’s some extra information on the wedding venues we’ve visited.
All Saints Church Pontefract
All Saints Church Pontefract is a stunning church that has stood the test of time. It has been a place of worship since c.1300AD and survived through war and social upheavals. Through re-building, it has become a church inside a church. It is full of history and a beautiful setting for a religious wedding ceremony.
Barnsley Town Hall
Barnsley Town Hall is a beautiful building in the centre of Barnsley. It is faced in Portland stone, and the clock tower stands 145 feet above street level. The outside space has been recently renovated to provide gardens and fountains, making a lovely backdrop for your wedding photographs.
The wedding ceremony rooms are on the first floor, up the marble staircase. The rooms can accommodate anywhere between 6 and 70 people, making it an ideal venue for any size wedding party.
Burntwood Court Hotel
Burntwood Court Hotel gives a range of options for any wedding day. It is set in 35 acres of landscaped grounds, and is licenced for wedding ceremonies. There are a range of rooms catering for wedding parties of all sizes. Burntwood Court offers a complimentary room for the newlyweds, along with breakfast. They also provide a flower archway and matching pedestals for the ceremony.
It’s one of the only wedding venues in South Yorkshire with an on-site spa. This combined with the hotel mean the whole wedding party can stay and relax together before and after the wedding.
Cannon Hall Museum
Cannon Hall is a Georgian country house that is licenced for wedding ceremonies. It’s one of the oldest wedding venues in South Yorkshire. There are three spaces to choose from; The Ballroom, The Library and The Deer Shelter. The Ballroom is the largest space, and can accommodate up to 90 wedding guests. The Library and outdoor Deer Shelter are more suited to a smaller gathering.
The wedding reception packages vary from simple drinks and canapes to full afternoon/evening receptions. These can be held in Cannon Hall itself, or in a marquee in the grounds. There are 70 acres of parkland and gardens which provide plenty of space for guests and photographs.
Cawthorne Village Hall
Cawthorne Village Hall is a beautiful hall in the centre of Cawthorne. It’s one of the most upcoming wedding venues in South Yorkshire, with bookings increasing year on year. It has ample car parking, a bar and kitchen area. The hall is booked individually with the decoration, catering and bar to be organised separately. There are no set suppliers for the hall.
The patio area outside is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the sunshine.
Cornhill Castle
Cornhill is one of Scotland’s most unique and elegant castles. It offers packages catering between 30-220 day guests and is licenced for civil ceremonies. The honeymoon suite is over three levels in one of the turrets. It includes a sauna & Jacuzzi, and a champagne room designed with newlyweds at heart.
Guest rooms can be reserved in the castle at guaranteed rates. The grounds provide a perfect backdrop for wedding photographs as well as a stunning view for guests while they enjoy the day.
Cutler’s Hall Sheffield
Located in the centre of Sheffield, Cutler’s Hall Hospitality is a unique venue. They are licenced for wedding ceremonies, and there are 5 rooms to choose from all with their own charm. The room capacity varies form 80 guests to over 200.
While there are no gardens at Cutler’s Hall, the Winter gardens and Peace gardens are just a few minutes’ walk away. Parking is off-site, but guests can collect a token from Cutler’s Hall to reduce the parking rate.
Horsleygate Hall
Horsleygate Hall in Derbyshire is a secluded Hall and accommodation site. There is just one wedding per weekend, with the wedding party having full access to all accommodation and grounds for the duration of their stay. Their grassed area is large enough for a tipi or marquee to be erected.
The on-site accommodation is in the form of three cottages currently able to house 10 people. More accommodation can be found a few minutes’ drive away.
Ibis Styles Hotel Barnsley
The Ibis Styles Hotel in Barnsley offers a bright space for any wedding reception. The windows down the main wall of the room give lots of light making the space feel extra large and airy. As a hotel there are plenty of rooms for guests to stay, and at reasonable rates. The car park outside is free.
Although there are no outside spaces, Barnsley town centre is just a few minutes’ drive away, as is Locke Park.
The Priory Barn & Cottages
The Priory Barn can accommodate up to 60 day guests, with the marquee holding up to 150. Giving exclusive use of the venue means your wedding can take over the entire place. The cottages provide ample accommodation for guests, with other accommodation available a short drive away.
The wedding team help to plan the whole day, from food to entertainment, and are on hand to answer any questions in the run up and on the day.
The Rockingham Arms
The Rockingham Arms in Wentworth is a beautiful 19th century pub in a village location. Its private function room can seat 80 people, with 120 standing. When hired for any event a section of the beer garden is also cordoned off for exclusive use. There is a private bar and can accommodate a dancefloor area too.
Across the road is the accommodation with additional parking and bridal suite. The wedding coordinator can help arrange the entire day, including room decorations and a resident DJ.
Rogerthrope Manor
Located in Pontefract Rogerthorpe Manor is a beautiful wedding venue. It offers packages for wedding parties of almost any size. There is a free car park, and in site accommodation along with large grounds surrounding the Manor. Rogerthorpe is licenced for civil marriage ceremonies.
One of the packages on offer is a pyjama pamper package. In conjunction with the wedding they include a beauty treatment, overnight accommodation, a full breakfast and a selection of food and drink during the evening stay. These packages are suitable for parties of 4-8.
Shaw Lane Sports Club
Shaw Lane Sports Club in Barnsley is a flexible wedding venue, catering for both large and small weddings. They are licensed to hold wedding ceremonies or they can be booked just for the wedding reception. The wedding coordinator is on hand to organise every detail of your day.
The outside space at Shaw Lane is beautiful. There is access to the pitch and woodland walk for formal photographs and lots of space for children (and adults) to run around and play.
St Andrews Church Psalter Lane Sheffiled
St Andrews is a stunning church on Psalter Lane Sheffield. They are a joint Anglican/Methodist partnership, with services each Sunday at 10:30. The church was formed in 1998 with the coming together of two Sheffield Churches. The Church we see today was built between 2002- 2003. It was designed by Peter Wright and gives a calm, flexible, comfortable and inspiring interior.
It offers a small car park outside the main entrance. The steps up to the front of the church give it a grand appearance, but there is also an accessible ramp to the left hand side.
Tankersley Manor
Tankersley Manor is a four star hotel just off J36 of the M1. The car park has 250 free spaces, so there is room for everyone. As part of their wedding packages Tankersley Manor offer a free 4 poster room for the Bride and Groom, and discounted rooms for guests.
They have dedicated wedding coordinators to help plan your big day. There is also a spa attached to the hotel so you and your guests can stay and relax together the day before or after the wedding.
Wentworth Church
Wentworth Church is found tucked away off the main path in Wentworth. It is a beautiful building with stunning outside spaces. There is ample car parking both on the lane up to church and in Wentworth car park. The main Sunday service takes place at 10:45 each week with special services throughout the year.
The church is also open during daylight hours for visitors to privately worship or take in the history of the building.
Note
While the churches listed are beautiful places for a wedding ceremony, they are religious services. As such they carry conditions that must be met in order to be married there. Each church has a variation of conditions, so take a look at their websites or speak to them directly.
